Reese Witherspoon's home is a lesson in contemporary, country-chic – starting with these 5 design tips (2024)

Reese Witherspoon: actress, producer, and businesswoman doesn't list interior designer on her résumé – but we'd make a case that she should. Our first case in point – her Nashville home.

It's no secret that we've long admired Reese's mansion, from its playful wallpapers to the rattan accents that adorn the porch. We may have penned numerous love letters to decorating ideas from these spaces, but never collected our favorites in one place, until now. The rooms below epitomize quintessential Tennessee style (with a chic twist), but they are sure to translate to homes far beyond the Volunteer State. Happy decorating, the Reese way.

1. Experiment with the 'new neutral' on kitchen cabinets

Gray kitchens know how to divide opinion, as some designers warn the appeal behind this conventional hue is wavering. However, a new twist on the classic may be enough to keep this color alive for many more seasons ahead – and perhaps no tone holds quite as much chance as the one seen on Reese's cabinets.

The powergray-green hue, seen on the actress's cabinets, is striking enough to define her entire kitchen. They exhibit a moody yet sophisticated aesthetic as versatile as gray, but unlike its traditional counterpart, it's expected to stand the test of time. Alongside its good looks, designers say we owe gray-green's sucsess to its therapeutic aura that brings a sense of calm to the most functional room in the home. What more could we want from our kitchen cabinet color?

2. The most stylish furnishings can be the most functional

Balancing aesthetics and functionality is an eternal balancing act, but Reese Witherspoon has shown it's possible in her dining room – or even more specifically, through her dining table.

The wooden table, in all its country charm, perfectly combines beauty and durability. It's spacious enough for hosting large dinner parties, while its rustic aesthetic only complements the space. The reclaimed wood design also brings a vintage feel to the otherwise modern room and offers a versatile base that can withstand wear and tear without worry. It's already stood the test of time, after all.

3. Play with pink (tastefully)

Barbiecore may have reshaped everything we know about pink, but there's more to this hue than we've seen in its popular culture resurgence. Beyond Hollywood, quieter shades of pink are enjoying a moment in the sun, and a look inside Reese's powder room is an indication of why.

The room, designed by Kohler, features a tasteful twist on the color of the moment, exhibiting a pattern that oozes a subtle boost of energy and femininity. We love how the hue looks against the dramatic marble countertop, gold accents, and monochromatic flooring, but this print is beautiful enough (and, we dare say, versatile enough) to work alongside whatever colors we may already have in our bath or powder rooms.

4. Never overlook the power of a painted trim

We'd be forgiven for not giving our trim a second thought when choosing our paint colors, but Reese has reminded us exactly how impactful this space can be. She made a case for painting our trims a different color to our walls, and it has changed the feel of her room entirely.

In Reese's case, she has created a monochromatic contrast with her trim, painted in a dark blue tone, and her off-white wall hue – and we love this juxtaposition effect. To follow in her lead, we should opt for two contrastable colors (black or navy and white come to mind), but there's also no harm in experimenting with more vibrant shades for a playful twist on the conventional.

5. View the porch as an extension of the home

A coastal, country aesthetic reigns supreme around Reese's house, but how does this style translate beyond her four walls? Enter her back porch, which is just as stylish as its interior counterparts.

The space in question is a soothing yoga zone, comprising a white-painted roof and thebest outdoor furniture. Stand-out pieces include the hanging rattan lamps that give the space a contemporary yet slightly retro aesthetic and a statement rope swing that demands nearly all of our attention.

We can buy into the look with these Reese-inspired picks below.
